Abstract

The current research aimed at identifying the level of subjective vitality among students of General Diploma in Education (one-year system) at Faculty of Education for Boys in Cairo - Al-Azhar University, exploring the correlation between subjective vitality and both academic ambition and academic engagement, and identifying the extent to which both academic ambition and academic engagement can be predicted from subjective vitality. It also aimed at exploring the differences in subjective vitality according to some demographic variables: gender (male/female), marital status (single/married), and academic specialization (scientific/literary). The basic sample consisted of (822) male and female students, including (364) male students and (458) female students. The researcher used the descriptive-correlational method. For instruments, the researcher constructed and utilized scales for subjective vitality, academic ambition, and academic engagement. Results revealed a very high level of subjective vitality among students of General Diploma in Education. Also, there was a positive, statistically significant correlation between subjective vitality and both academic ambition and academic engagement, and the predictability of both academic ambition and academic engagement from subjective vitality. In addition, there were statistically significant differences in subjective vitality according to the demographic variables (gender- academic specialization) in favor of males and literary specialization, and there was no difference according to the marital status. Finally, the results were discussed and interpreted in light of the theoretical framework and previous studies, and the research was concluded by presenting some recommendations and proposals.
