Abstract

The current study aimed at investigating the correlation between bullying behavior and level of self-esteem among pupils at the first cycle of basic education. The study was conducted on a sample of (210) male and female from the first cycle of basic education, at the Al-Farouq Omar Institute, and the Four Martyrs of Al-Azhari Primary School. Their ages ranged between (9-12) years with an average age of (10.7) years and a standard deviation of (1.03). To collect data, the researcher prepared both scales of bullying behaviors and self-esteem. The results of the research revelaed that there was a statistically significant negative correlation (a= 0.01) between bullying behavior and level of self-esteem. There were statistically significant differences between males and females in both total scores as well as both subscales of physical bullying and damaging property, in favor of the males. However, there were no statistically significant differences between males and females in social, verbal and psychological bullying. There were statistically significant differences between males and females in level of self-esteem, in favor of the females. Finally, bullying behavior could be predicted through total score of self-esteem.
