Cultural Alienation and Its Correlation with Locus of Control (Internal/External) among Al-Azhar University Students

Abstract

The current research aimed to investigate the correlation between cultural alienation and locus of control (internal/external) among Al-Azhar University students and to identify the differences between those with the locus of control (internal/external) in cultural alienation.The research instruments were administered to 147 students studying at the Faculty of Education for Boys in Cairo, Al-Azhar University.The search instruments were the scale of the locus of control (internal/external) developed by Rotter (Translated by: Aladdin Kafafi, 1982),and the scale of cultural alienation for university students (developed by the researcher).The results of the research revealed that there is a statistically significant positive correlation at (0.01) level between the scores of Al-Azhar University students on the scale of cultural alienation (dimensions and the total degree) and the external locus of control.There was also a statistically significant negative correlation at the level of (0.01) between the scores of Al-Azhar University students on the scale of cultural alienation (dimensions and the total degree) and the internal locus of control.The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) in cultural alienation (dimensions and the total degree) due to t the locus of control (internal/external) in favor of those with external locus of control.
