Abstract

This research aimed at identifying high levels of addiction severity indexes among adolescent substance-users. It also sought to investigate differences in their psychological structure according to level of substance use (high - low). The participants were (238) adolescent substance-users between (12) and (21) years of age (mean age= 17.44; SD= 4.60). Addiction severity index (ASI) (Brodey et al., 2008: translated by the researcher), the International Personality Disorder Examination (IPDE) and the Arabic big five personality factors checklist (Abdul-Khaleq, 2020) were administered. Results indicated that psychiatric status was of first rank (relative mean weight= 53.90%). Family/social status was ranked second (relative mean weight= 51.9500%). Employment and support came third (relative mean weight= 83.50%) followed by legal status which was ranked fourth (relative mean weight= 33.40%). Differences were in favor of those with lower levels of substance use in the acceptance sub-scale, whereas differences in the paranoid personality one were in favor of those with higher levels of substance use.
