Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of second-cycle basic education teachers in Egypt in raising students’ awareness of climate change risks, To achieve this goal, the descriptive method was employed, and a questionnaire was used as the main tool, applied to a sample of (400) teachers from second-cycle basic education schools in Egypt. The results of the field study showed that the teachers in the second stage of basic education play a moderate role in raising students' awareness of climate change risks. Significant statistical differences were found at the significance level (0.05) according to based variables of academic specialization (scientific/literary) in favor of the literary specialization, and school location (rural/urban) in favor of rural schools. However, no statistically significant differences according to the variables of governorate (Alexandria/Cairo/Aswan) and years of experience (less than 5 years, 5–10 years, more than 10 years). The study also recommended the necessity of providing teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills in the fields of climate change through specialized training courses, which would contribute to enhancing their ability to integrate climate concepts into the curriculum. It also suggested conducting research to develop environmental competencies among second-cycle basic education teachers in the light of the principles of sustainable development.
