Abstract

The research aimed to identify the reality of environmental responsibility among student-teachers at Al-Azhar University in light of the objectives of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050. To achieve this goal, the study adopted a mixed-methods approach following the sequential explanatory design, which is based on the integration of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The researchers developed a questionnaire to measure the level of environmental responsibility among student teachers at Al-Azhar University, which was administered to a sample of 393 male and female students from the Faculties of Education at the university. This was followed by conducting interviews to obtain qualitative data, applied to nine professors from the Faculties of Education at Al-Azhar University, with the aim of deepening and interpreting the quantitative results. The results revealed the intermediate level of environmental responsibility among student-teachers, in light of the objectives of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050. The findings also indicated no statistically significant differences attributable to gender. However, statistically significant differences were found in favor of students in the science track compared to those in the arts track, as well as in favor of fourth-year students compared to students in other years. Moreover, the qualitative analysis identified a set of requirements necessary for developing environmental responsibility among student-teachers at Al-Azhar University. In light of these results, a proposed educational vision was developed to foster environmental responsibility among student-teachers at Al-Azhar University, in alignment with the principles and objectives of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050.
