Abstract

This study aimed to know the predictive ability of cognitive distortions with the level of self-stigma among siblings of people with disabilities. The study sample consisted of (500) siblings of people with disabilities in special care centers in Karak Governorate. Measures of cognitive distortions and self-stigma were developed after reviewing the theoretical literature. Using the descriptive predictive approach and after conducting statistical treatments, the study reached the most prominent results, which are: the level of cognitive distortions among siblings of people with disabilities was average, and self-stigma among siblings of people with disabilities was also at an average level. The results also showed a predictive ability that explained the clear variance of cognitive distortions in all their dimensions with the level of self-stigma among siblings of people with disabilities, as multiple linear regression was adopted. The study recommended the need to focus on this sample by encouraging researchers to conduct other studies that include important variables related to their psychological and social status.
