Abstract

This research aims at exploring the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the management of higher education institutions and to anticipate future scenarios for the development of these applications. To achieve this, both the descriptive and foresight approaches were employed. An in-depth analysis of current trends and potential future developments was conducted through a review of literature and research published between 2020 and 2024, focusing on AI applications in higher education management. The scenario method was used to present three possible scenarios: the optimistic scenario, the extension scenario, and the pessimistic scenario. Interviews with experts were conducted to evaluate these scenarios from their perspectives. The findings revealed numerous potential AI applications in areas such as decision-making, planning, human resources management, control, quality assurance, and student services. However, several challenges and obstacles hinder the implementation of these applications. Based on the findings, the study provides recommendations for policymakers, administrators, and faculty members on how to effectively utilize AI in higher education institutions to enhance efficiency, improve student outcomes, and ensure equitable access to educational services.
