Psychological Burnout and its Relationship to Assume Responsibility Among Faculty Members at Jordanian Universities

Abstract

        The study aims to identify the levels of burnout and responsibility, as well as the relationship between them, among faculty members at Jordanian universities. The descriptive correlational approach was utilized on a study sample of (514) male and female faculty members at Jordanian universities in Irbid Governorate, selected using a simple random method. To achieve the research objectives, the Maslach Burnout Scale, translated by Magableh and Salama (1993), was used, along with the development of a responsibility-taking scale. The study results revealed that burnout among faculty members was low, while their level of responsibility was high. Moreover, the findings indicated a statistically significant negative correlation between burnout and responsibility among faculty members. The study recommended several key points, including the need to develop and prepare guidance programs for faculty members, hold training courses to enhance their professional and academic skills, and conduct more scientific studies to examine the topic of burnout and determine its relationship to other variables.
