Abstract

This research aimed to design a rehabilitation program using open and closed kinetic chain exercises to enhance the functional efficiency of the knee joint in athletes. The researcher employed an experimental approach due to its suitability for the nature of the study, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. A purposive sample of 8 athletes, aged between 20 and 25 years, was selected. These athletes had undergone surgical intervention for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries, and were from the football teams of Petrogas and Al-Sikka Al-Hadid in the Egyptian Premier League (B Division).
Findings: In light of the research objective and the results obtained, the researcher concluded that the proposed rehabilitation program using open and closed kinetic chain exercises had a positive effect on the functional efficiency of the knee joint in athletes. The program contributed to reducing the severity of knee pain in the participants by 86.64%. It also helped improve the muscular strength of the knee flexor and extensor muscles by percentages ranging from 25.10% to 86.89%. Additionally, it contributed to improving the range of motion of the knee joint in the participants by percentages ranging from 0.35% to 10.40%.
Recommendations: Based on the research objectives, hypotheses, results, and within the scope of the sample, the researcher recommends the following:
-           Using open and closed kinetic chain exercises to improve the functional efficiency of the knee joint in athletes.
-           Utilizing the proposed rehabilitation program with open and closed kinetic chain exercises to alleviate knee pain, improve muscular strength of the knee flexor and extensor muscles, and enhance the range of motion of the knee joint in athletes.
-           Conducting similar studies to explore the impact of kinetic chain exercises in the rehabilitation of various sports injuries in different samples.
