Abstract

The present study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a proposed course in international education, enhanced by current events, for developing awareness of global citizenship dimensions among teachers of international students at Islamic Institutes for Missionary Studies. The targeted dimensions for development included: Education for Global Citizenship, Cultural Diversity Respect, Human Rights Respect, and Environmental Protection. These dimensions encompassed cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects, which were reinforced through a set of activities related to current events and integrated into the proposed international education course. The research materials included: a list of global citizenship dimensions, the proposed international education course enhanced by current events, and an instructor’s guide. The research tools consisted of a cognitive achievement test, an affective aspects scale, and a behavioral aspects attitudes test, all designed to measure awareness of global citizenship dimensions among teachers of international students (prepared by the researcher). The research sample comprised 31 teachers of international students. The results revealed statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level between the mean scores of the research sample in the pre- and post-tests, in favor of the post-test, for the cognitive awareness test, the affective awareness scale, and the behavioral attitudes test, all measuring awareness of global citizenship dimensions. The study recommended the utilization of the international education course and the activation of the current events approach in teacher training programs, particularly for teachers of international students. Additionally, it emphasized the need to incorporate global citizenship dimensions in teacher preparation programs both pre-service and in-service.
