Abstract

The current study aims to identify the level of academic advising as perceived by students in the Department of Special Education at the College of Basic Education in Kuwait. It also seeks to explore differences in students’ perceptions of academic advising based on gender, as well as to examine the evaluations and opinions of students regarding the level of academic advising in the department. The study sample consisted of 394 students from the Department of Special Education, including 73 males and 321 females. The sample was further divided by specialization: 196 in Giftedness and Talent, 187 in Intellectual Disabilities, 4 in Learning Disabilities, and 7 in Hearing Impairments.A specifically designed scale was used to measure the level of academic advising as perceived by students in the Department of Special Education at the College of Basic Education in Kuwait. The results revealed a high level of student evaluation of academic advising in the department. Additionally, the findings showed no statistically significant differences in academic advising levels based on gender. On the other hand, students expressed a range of opinions and observations, both positive and negative, about the level of academic advising. Positive opinions highlighted the excellent standard of academic advising in the Department of Special Education, while negative observations included a lack of interaction with the academic advisor and not meeting the advisor throughout their academic years. Students also provided several suggestions for improving academic advising, such as offering new course sections and organizing awareness seminars about academic advising.
