Abstract

This research aimed at recognizing the effectiveness of using an electronic learning environment to teach the Hadith and Prophet’s Biography course in developing levels of conceptual comprehension and some analytical thinking skills. To achieve this goal, a list of conceptual comprehension levels and a list of analytical thinking skills were designed. Based on these, a test was prepared to measure levels of conceptual comprehension in the Hadith and Biography course, and another to measure analytical thinking skills. Their validity and reliability were verified by applying them to a pilot sample, after which they were administered as pre-tests to a randomly selected sample of 70 male and female third-year students from the Basic Education Department at the Faculty of Education, Minia University. The pre-test results showed a low level of conceptual comprehension in the Hadith and Prophet’s Biography course and in analytical thinking skills, which necessitated the preparation of a program using an electronic learning environment.
The current research adopted an experimental approach based on a quasi-experimental design with a single group using pre-test and post-test measurements (One group pre-test, post-test design). The research results indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the 0.01 level between the mean scores of the research group in the pre- and post-tests of the conceptual comprehension test, in favor of the post-test. There were also statistically significant differences at the 0.01 level between the mean scores of the research group in the pre-and post-tests of the analytical thinking skills test, in favor of the post-test, which confirms the effectiveness of the electronic learning environment used. Based on these results, a set of recommendations was suggested that may contribute to improving the methods and approaches used to teach the Hadith and Prophet’s Biography course at the university level.
