Social Anxiety as a Predictor of Online Friendship among Secondary School Students in Bisha

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of social anxiety and online friendship preference and the relationship between the two variables among secondary school students in Bisha Governorate, and the predictive ability of social anxiety of online friendship preference.  The descriptive approach was used, by applying the online Friendship Preference Scale (Shabahang et al,2022) and the Social Anxiety Scale (Alsayed& Abdelfattah, 2023) to a sample of secondary school students in Bisha Governorate, numbering (403) male and female students. The study concluded that the level of preference for online friendship and social anxiety among the study sample was moderate. It was also shown that there was a strong positive and statistically significant correlation at the level of Significance (0.01) between social anxiety and preference for online friendship with a correlation coefficient (0.74). The results of  the simple linear regression analysis showed that it is possible to predict  the level of online friendship preference through social anxiety among secondary school students.
