Abstract

The current study aimed at preparing a tool for assessing mindfulness among hard of hearing adolescents as well as identifying its psychometric properties (validity – reliability – internal consistency). The sample comprised (100) hard of hearing adolescents. The descriptive method was utilized. Results indicated that the scale has high validity indicators. Factorial validity was calculated. The factor analysis yielded three factors: (observation, description, and conscious action). Their latent roots were 10.829, 8.223, and 6.192, respectively. Variation ratio values were 30.081%, 22.824%, and 17.200%, respectively. In addition, concurrent validity was assessed. The correlation coefficient was calculated between the scores of (100) hard of hearing adolescents on the prepared scale for the current study and their scores on the mindfulness scale of (Bear et al., 2006), translated by (Al-Beheiri et al., 2014). The correlation coefficient was (0.785). Additionally, the scale has good internal consistency, as there was a significant correlation (a= 0.01) between each item and the related subscale total score. The scale also has high reliability indicators, as Cronbach’s alpha for its total score was 0.816, whereas test – retest reliability coefficient was 0.792. Thus, the scale has appropriate psychometric properties qualifying it to be administered for assessing mindfulness among hard of hearing adolescents.
