Abstract

The research aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a proposed program based on the textual linguistics' standards in developing speaking skills and Self-confidence among Al-Azhar secondary stage students. The research adopted the experimental approach with the design of the experimental and control groups. Participants of the research consisted of (60) students who were selected from the first year of Al-Azhar secondary stage. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control one. The research included four instruments: a list of speaking skills appropriate for the participants in light of the textual linguistics' standards, a rubric for measuring the performance aspect of these skills, an achievement test for measuring the cognitive aspect of these skills, and a rubric for Self-confidence. Results of the research revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group students and those of the control group in the post-administration in favor of the experimental group. The research recommended adopting the proposed program for teaching speaking to Al-Azhar secondary stage students, and adopting the speaking skills that were selected, as well as adopting its instruments when evaluating students’ speaking skills.
