Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the theoretical foundations for the interdisciplinary studies and educational research. Also, it sought to determine the degree of approval among the faculty members at the faculties of education at Al-Azhar University on employing the interdisciplinary studies in developing the educational research. The study adopted the descriptive survey approach. It relied on the questionnaire as an instrument for collecting its data, which included four axes: the significance of the interdisciplinary studies, the reality of interdisciplinary studies, the obstacles for employing the interdisciplinary studies in the educational research, and the mechanisms for employing the interdisciplinary studies. The questionnaire was applied to a sample of (81) faculty members. The study revealed a set of results that the most significant of which were: The approval of faculty members at the faculties of education at Al-Azhar University for employing the interdisciplinary studies in developing the educational research achieved a high degree, totaling (2.61). The order of the questionnaire’s axes was as follows: The first axis (the significance of the interdisciplinary studies) ranked first with a total degree (2.88), the fourth axis (the mechanisms for employing the interdisciplinary studies) ranked second with a total degree (2.87), the third axis (the obstacles for employing the interdisciplinary studies in the educational research) ranked third with a total degree (2.53), the second axis (the reality of interdisciplinary studies) ranked fourth with a total degree (2.25). Moreover, the results concluded that there was no statistically significant difference between the study variables (scientific degree, experience, type, and specialization) except for the first axis in specialization, between curriculum and instruction, and technology, and between psychology and mental health, in favor of curriculum and instruction, and technology. The study recommends supporting the educational research that based on the interdisciplinary studies, and the necessity of employing the interdisciplinary studies in developing the educational research.
