Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a proposed unit including health behaviors in the Islamic religion education curriculum in developing health awareness among 3rd preparatory students. To meet this end; a list of health behaviors appropriate for 3rd prep students was prepared. Moreover, the instruments of the study, namely, the proposed unit including the health behaviors and the teacher's guide were prepared as well. The one- group pretest-posttest experimental design was adopted. After teaching the participants of the study, totaling (31), the proposed unit and applying the instruments, the results showed that there is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the pretest and posttest in the health awareness scale in favor of the posttest. The results also showed the students' commitment in studying other units which include health behaviors related to other domains such as smoking, drugs, and addiction. That revealed the effectiveness of the proposed unit which includes the health behavior in developing health awareness among the participants. The study recommended that the Islamic religion education curriculum should be related to the needs and problems of the society. It is also recommended that the health behaviors stated in the recent study should be considered when designing and building the Islamic religion education curriculum for such students.
