Abstract

The study sample consisted of (130) male and female students (67 rural) and (63 urban) from high school and Al-Azhar students in the governorates of Giza and Minya, between the ages of (16-18) years, with an average age of (17.22), and a standard deviation of (0.780). The study used the descriptive and relational approach because it is most appropriate for the current study, and the self-esteem scale (prepared by Jamila Benamour, 2018) and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 were applied to them, consisting of (20) items, prepared by (Taylor and Bagby, 1994), and translated (Alaa El-Deen Kafafi and Fouad Al-Dawash, 2011), and the results of the study concluded that there is a positive correlation with statistical significance between the degree of each of self-esteem and alexithymia among secondary school students, and there are differences in self-esteem according to the cultural background (rural/urban) in favor of rural students, and there are no differences in alexithymia according to the cultural background ( rural / urban).
