The Reading Engagement Measure in French Language among a Sample of Education College Students, Al-Azhar University

Abstract

The current research aimed to prepare a situational measure for reading engagement in French language and to verify its psychometric properties, and its validity for use in the Egyptian environment. The research sample consisted of (137) third year students, in the French Language Department, at the Faculty of Education for Boys, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, in the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 AD. The researcher used the descriptive approach.The results of the research revealed that the measure statements are about five factors, namely (interest in reading - reading competence - using appropriate reading strategies - involvement- integration and constructing meaning).The measure had high validity significance (indicators), namely (arbitrators validity, and the validity of the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis). The results indicated that the measure had high reliability score that allowed it to be used. The reliability score by using Alpha Cronback for the total score of the measure was (0.967).
