Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the challenges faced by mothers of mentally disabled teenage girls during menstruation in light of income and educational level variables. The study community consisted of all mothers of mentally disabled teenage girls in Ajloun in the year 2022/2023, totaling 50 mothers. Their ages ranged between 27 and 35 years, while their daughters' ages ranged between 12 and 15 years. The average age of menstruation onset was (3±12). The study instrument, consisting of 59 items, was applied to all individuals in the study community after ensuring its validity and reliability. The study results showed the existence of high-level challenges faced by mothers in all areas covered by the study instrument, including challenges related to menstrual taboos and restrictions, challenges related to menstrual poverty, challenges related to lack of education and training, and challenges related to the characteristics of mentally disabled teenage girls. The results also revealed statistically significant differences at a significance level of (α=0. 05) between the mean estimates of the sample individuals in two domains. These differences were attributed to the income level variable, favoring an income level below 400 Jordanian dinars. Furthermore, the results showed statistically significant differences between the mean estimates of the sample individuals in two domains: challenges related to the characteristics of mentally disabled teenage girls and challenges related to lack of training and education. These differences were attributed to the educational level variable, favoring a secondary education level or lower.
