Features of physician preparation in the Islamic educational heritage

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the features of the preparation of the doctor in the Islamic educational heritage, by identifying the features necessary for the preparation of the doctor in the Islamic educational heritage, to identify the ethics that must be available in the doctor,  identify the most important characteristics of the Muslim doctor, identify the most important institutions of preparing the doctor in the Islamic educational heritage (mosque, school, bimaristan, doctors' homes), identify the most prominent methods of preparing the doctor in the Islamic educational heritage (clinical observation and practice, self-reading, discussions, debates and medical consultations, the journey in seeking knowledge), the study used both methodologies: fundamentalist and descriptive, the study reached several results, including: revealing the requirements necessary for the preparation of the doctor, which are scientific and mental requirements, natural and physical requirements, psychological requirements, moral requirements such as sincerity of intention to God, honesty, covering the nakedness, patience, humility, mercy, compassion, the preparation of the doctor in the Islamic educational heritage was based on two important methods: the theoretical aspect, which includes the study of basic medical books under the supervision of professors in mosques and schools, the practical or experimental aspect, which included monitoring patients and the development of their health condition in the hospital and taking these observations, which is known as clinical observation and practice, and attending teaching seminars in bimaristans, as well as monitoring the professor when examining patients and how he behaves with them, the Islamic educational heritage is unique in the issue of doctors' certificate, so that no one deals with treating patients unless he passes an exam, the study recommended the need to study and understand our Islamic heritage and read it critically, analytically and cognitively, the need to focus on the scientific heritage of Muslim scientists in the medical field, in order to link the heritage past with the technical present, the need to purify school curricula from glorifying the West, its civilization and its men, teaching Islamic civilization, its history and its men, working to accustom medical students to self-reading, and lifelong learning.
