The skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables as perceived by Al-Azhar University students

Abstract

Life, specifically the academic life, in the twenty-first century witnessed a great change in the accelerating cognitive and technological aspects. In addition, the conditions of life today and in the future emphasize the competencies that are called global competence. It is clear that global competence includes awareness of other world regions and an understanding of their culture and international issues. It also requires possessing communication skills in the international language, the ability to gather and use information from various sources. In addition, it requires preparing models for the values and views of tolerance, respect and concern for other cultures, people and global life. Therefore, in psychology and education sciences- on the theoretical and practical level, the international communication and exchange of experiences are considered important sources for the professional and career development of the university teacher, and for the development of his personality as a distinctive feature for the future of learners. Accordingly, the current study sought to explore the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables as perceived by Al-Azhar University students. The sample consisted of (466) students from the faculty of Education) in Cairo (, Al-Azhar University. They were divided as follows (144 generic), (163 literary), and (159 scientific) specializations. For the purpose of the study, the current researcher designed and utilized a scale for the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables as perceived by Al-Azhar University students, faculty of Education. The results revealed that: The responses of the participant to the scale of the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables were higher than average, which indicates the importance of these sub-skills as required for the university teacher in light of the international variables. In addition, the results show that the relative importance of the total score of the scale of the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables was (95.65%), which indicate that these skills represent great importance for the university teacher. Finally, there was no statistically significant difference in the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables according to the academic specialization. So, there exists agreement of participants about the importance of the skills required for the university teacher in light of the international variables.
