Abstract

The research aimed to uncover the effectiveness of student learning communities in acquiring thinking skills, knowledge processes, and meta-motivation among university students, bymeasuring differences in post measurement of thinking skills, knowledge management processes, and meta-motivation, between the experimental and the control groups. The research sample included (20) university students studying the life skills course. The sample was divided randomly into two groups, (10) students each; the experimental group, taught by the learning communities method, and the control group, taught by the traditional method. The research results indicated statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) between the mean scores of the two groups on the scales of thinking skills, knowledge management processes, and meta-motivation processes, in favor of the experimental group. The value sizes of the experimental effect using η2 for student learning community activities on the dependent macro variables were respectively (0.979 - 0.987-0.964), indicating that a large percentage of differences in post testing between the two groups due to the activities of student learning societies. The results also indicated that the gain rates adjusted for the impact of student learning communities' activities in imparting skills and the dependent variables processes were high, reaching (1.22-1.28-1.23) respectively.
