Abstract

The current study aimed at exploring the levels of the students of the Faculty of Education in Cairo, Al-Azhar University in cognitive representation of information, optimism and academic resilience as well as predicting academic resilience from cognitive representation of information and optimism. In addition, it aimed at exploring the differences in the three variables according to specialization (literary, scientific). The sample consisted of (304) students. The current researchers designed and utilized scales for optimism and academic resilience and utilized cognitive representation of information scale (prepared by Al-Zayyat, 1998). Results revealed that the students of the Faculty of Education in Cairo, Al-Azhar University had average levels in cognitive representation of information, and academic resilience and high level in optimism. In addition, academic resilience can be predicted from cognitive representation of information but not predicted from optimism. Finally, results revealed that there weren’t statistically significant differences in cognitive representation of information, optimism and academic resilience according to specialization (literary, scientific). The results were discussed in light of the theoretical framework of research and previous studies.
