Abstract

The aim of the current  study is to identify parenting styles and their role in achieving  psychological well-being (self-acceptance) of kindergarten children in light of Some demographic variables. The study also aims at revealing the obstacles that face parents in achieving their kindergarten children’s psychological well-being  in addition to  identifying differences in the responses of the sample regarding methods of achieving kindergarten children’s psychological well-being attributed to two variables: the educational level and  the economic level of parents. The researcher used the the descriptive survey approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire that was applied to a sample of  (370) parents of kindergarten children  in private kindergartens in Riyadh. It is found that (98.65%) of the respondents agreed to follow the democratic style in achieving children’s psychological well-being (self-acceptance) ; while (0.81%) of the parents agreed to some extent to follow the authoritarian style in achieving children’s psychological well-being (self-acceptance). The study concluded that the obstacles facing the parents in achieving the well-being of their children were related to family problems and to managing marital life. Another obstacle was that parents need more training courses about parental styles. Moreover, the study demonstrated that there were no statistically significant differences in the respondents' responses attributed to the educational level and economic level of the parents. The most prominent recommendation of the current study was  conducting educational courses for those who are planning to marry and for parents on how to manage their family lives. These courses should also help them handle problems and develop their children’s psychological well-being.
