The Current State of Partnership Research at Al-Azhar University: A Field Study

Abstract

The study aimed at analyzing the current state of research partnership at Al-Azhar University, by investigating the status-quo of its societal, institutional, and individual components. The study adopted the descriptive analytical method as an appropriate method for the study aim. Also, it utilized SWOT Analysis model to analyze the status-quo of the internal and external environments of the university research partnership; Accordingly, the study adopted McKinsey 7S Model to analyze the dimensions of the internal environment and PEST model to analyze the external one of the university research partnership. The results indicated lack of the societal components that support research partnership at Al-Azhar University; the economic, technological, political, and cultural components of the research partnership is considered below global rates. As for the status-quo of university internal environment, the results of the analysis indicated the weakness of mechanisms that support university research partnership in terms of strategy, systems, organizational structure, shared values, Staff, and skills. The study concluded with the most influential elements of SWOT analysis on research partnership according to the views of the study sample. The study recommended the necessity of defining research priorities around which the university scientific disciplines converge, enacting policies that motivate researchers to participate in research partnership, including the organizational structure of the university with inter-support units to strengthen research relations, academic leaders should spread culture of research partnership among university faculty through their adoption of the supporting administrative style, formulating University values ​​(human relations, knowledge sharing, inter-cooperation, open communication, estimating the opposite opinion) around which the employees to support research partnership.
