Abstract

This research aimed at revealing the relationship between self-compassion and life stress among adolescents in orphanage homes, identifying the predictability of life stresses through self-compassion, and identifying the differences in self- compassion and life stresses according to gender (male/ female). The participants were (150) teenagers; they were selected from some orphanages in the governorates of Cairo and Gharbia. The study used the scale of self-compassion (developed by: Neff, 2003) translated by first researcher, life stress scale (developed by the researcher). The results showed a negative relationship between self-compassion and life stresses. It also showed the possibility of predicting life stresses through self-compassion. There were statistically significant differences in self-compassion according to gender (male/female) in favor of males, and there were no differences in life stresses according to gender (male/female). The research showed the importance of self-compassion among adolescence, and its impact on life stress of adolescents in orphan care homes.
