A Suggested Proposal from the Perspective of the Life Model in the Service of the Individual to Improve the Quality of Life of the Homeless Elderly

Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the status-quo of the quality of the homeless elderly life, residents of housing institutions in Giza governorate by identifying their quality of life on the objective dimension that includes (healthy life, social life, psychological life, recreational and cultural life, religious life, economic life). The study also sought to identify the quality of life on the subjective dimension, which includes (general satisfaction of life - social adjustment – self-esteem), and identify the obstacles of improving their quality of life and to develop a suggested proposal to improve their quality of life, to come up to a proposed vision to improve their quality of life using the life model in the service of the individual. The research made use of the descriptive analytical method using the social survey in the method of the intentional sample, and it was administered to a sample of (50) elderly residents of the “ Mana Human Rescue Foundation” in Giza governorate. The data collection tools were a questionnaire for the homeless elderly, and an interview guide with experts and specialists. The results of the research revealed that the quality of life of the homeless elderly on the objective dimension, which includes the quality of life health, social, psychological, recreational, cultural, religious and economic came with an average degree, as well as the quality of life in the self-dimension, which includes general satisfaction of  life, social adjustment and self-esteem, also came with an average degree. The research developed a suggested proposal to improve the quality of life of homeless elderly people using the life model in the service of the individual.
