An Analytic Study of the Educational Legislations Provided by Islam to Limit the Elderly Problems

Abstract

This study aimed to present an analytic study of the legislations provided  by Islam to limit the problems of the elderly by identifying the concept of the elderly in language and terminology and in psychological and social studies, besides presenting the most important concepts of that stage. The study also aimed to identify the special characteristics of that stage, whether physical, mental, Social, or psychological and emotional characteristics. The study also aimed at identifying the most important problems of the elderly. These problems were classified into physical problems, mental problems, social problems, psychological and emotional problems, and economic problems, explaining the role of Islamic education in reducing these problems. The study used the fundamental approach through the interpretation and analysis of the Qur’an verses, hadiths, the sayings of the companions, followers and Muslim thinkers related to the subject of the study. The findings of the study indicated that there is a multiplicity of definitions of the elderly according to the field of study, and that the old age stage is one of the stages of life in which people are exposed to many problems. According to the characteristics of rapid and successive growth at that stage, the Islamic education has established many rules and foundations that must be followed to reduce the problems of the elderly.
