The Effectiveness of Active Learning in Teaching Rhetoric on Developing Literary Appreciation Skills and Attitude towards the Subject among Second-grade Secondary Students of Al-Azhar

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the effectiveness of active learning in teaching rhetoric to develop literary appreciation skills and attitude toward the subject among second-grade students of Al-Azhar secondary institutes. The main study sample consisted of (60) students and divided into two groups: An experimental group (totaling 30), and a control group (totaling 30). The researcher developed research materials and tools, which consisted of: a list of literary taste skills, a scale of literary taste skills, a scale of attitude towards rhetoric. The researcher taught the content of rhetoric according to the active learning strategies (cooperative learning - brainstorming - concept maps) to the students of the experimental group, while the control group studied in the usual way; after administering the tools remotely and monitoring the data and analyzing it statistically, the results revealed the effectiveness of active learning in developing literary appreciation skills and the attitude toward rhetoric among second-grade students of Al-Azhar secondary school.
