Abstract

The aim of the research was to present a critical view of the status-quo of the philosophical rooting of moral values from the perspective of the humanist trend in contemporary Western thought to verify two things: First, the extent to which this status-quo is consistent with the requirements of the general materialistic orientation of humanists. Secondly, the adequacy of this status-quo to establish an educational and moral scene is independent of the divine religion. The research made use of the philosophical analysis method. The study concluded that the humanists talk about morals constitutes a logical fallacy that is never consistent with the requirements of the materialistic orientation of this school. On the other hand, the philosophical dimensions that the humanists present to establish an atheistic moral scene does not meet the theoretical sufficiency necessary to achieve this, as the humanists knowing their inability to philosophically root the moral scene. They tend to ignore the ontological dimension of morality. All their discussions and framing revolve around the epistemological dimension only; thus it is confirmed that ethics cannot be rooted in light of the denial of the existence of God because it also entails a denial of morals.
