Abstract

The current research aimed to study the effectiveness of a proposed program in developing the phonological awareness and treating dyslexia among first graders with learning disabilities. The main research sample consisted of (24) male and female students with learning disabilities in four schools in Gharbia Governorate, Arab Republic of Egypt. They were divided into two groups: experimental and control, in each group their ware (12) male and female students. The research instruments included a test of phonological awareness, and a test of diagnosing dyslexia, after verifying their psychometric properties in addition to the proposed program, all of which were prepared by the researcher. After administering the research tools before and after using non-parametric statistics of Mann Whitney tests, the Wilcoxon test and other statistical methods, the research resulted in some results, the most important of which are: there is a statistically significant difference at the level () between the mean ranks of the members of the control and experimental group in the post-measurement of the phonological awareness test as well as the hardness diagnosis test in favor of the experimental group, and there is a statistically significant difference at the level ()of  between the mean scores of the experimental group members in the pre and post applications of the phonological awareness test, as well as the dyslexia diagnosis test in favor of the post administration. There was no statistically significant difference in the experimental group, males, and females, in the post application of the phonological awareness test, as well as the dyslexia diagnosis test. Considering these results, the research developed some recommendations and suggestions.
