Abstract

Scientific research is important in academia as it aims to increase knowledge and acquire research skills among students (researchers) through effective supervisory practices by their supervisors, assuming that the higher the quality of supervision and practical practices on research, the higher its quality. The research sample consisted of assistant lecturers and lecturers who have master's and doctorate from the College of Education - Al-Azhar University in Cairo, and their numbers were (52) lecturers, and (70) assistant lecturers. In order to achieve the aim of the research, a scale was prepared that aims to measure the perceptions of the associate faculty members who have master's and doctorate to practise effective scientific supervision by their supervisors. The results indicated that:  - The perceptions of the research sample of those who had a master's degree and doctorate about the practice of effective scientific supervision by their supervisors were high on the dimensions of the scale prepared and used in the research.  - There were statistically significant differences in the dimensions of the scale attributed to the scientific degree variable (master's - doctorate) in (satisfaction with supervision - supporting students in acquiring new skills - knowledge - time management - total score). The "t" values were (2.010 - 2.047 - 2.276 - 2.077 - 1.992), respectively which were statistically significant values at 0.05 level; these differences were in favor of the master's holders.      - There were no differences in (leading the supervision process - emotional support - effective communication) attributed to the scientific degree variable. The "t" value was not statistically significant.
