The effectiveness of a program based on comprehension control strategies in developing analytical reading skills for second-grade intermediate students

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the program based on strategies for monitoring comprehension in developing analytical reading skills For middle second graders. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used in his study the experimental approach based on the quasi-experimental design based on two experimental and control groups. He also designed a number of research tools and materials, which are: a list of analytical reading skills, an analytical reading test, the program is based on strategies of monitoring comprehension, and includes a student guide and a teacher’s guide for its implementation. The study sample was made of (55) students of the second intermediate school in Dhahran Intermediate School, where the number of students of the experimental group reached (29) students The number of students in the control group reached (26) students, and the researcher used a number of statistical methods and treatments to reach the results of the study, one of the important: (Mann–Whitney U Test, Wilcoxon Test, the effect size scale). the study concluded that existence of differences Statistical significance at the level of significance (0,01) between the mean scores of students of the experimental group and the control group in the post-analytical reading test at each level separately, and in the combined analytical reading skills in favor of the experimental group. The study also found a practical indication for the application of the program based on strategies for monitoring comprehension. In light of the findings of the study, it recommended the need to pay attention to analytical reading skills, and work to develop them through modern teaching strategies, and appropriate activities. It also recommended inviting those in charge of planning Arabic language curricula to build them and organize their content in light of the applications of strategies of monitoring comprehension
