The educational efforts of Grand Imams of al-Azhar, the honorable, during the period from 1952-2011

Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the contributions of the Grand Imamsإ of Al-Azhar in the educational field within the period 1952-2011 and how to get benefits of them. The study used the descriptive Analysis Method and the Historical Approach. The study found out that there were great contributions for the imams in the scope of education, represented in raising the community culture and awareness about lots of educational issues: such as the risk of intellectual and cultural deviation, negative impacts of the media, and  facing unemployment crisis. In addition, Grand Imams of al-Azhar contributed in establishing enormous number of Al-Azhar institutes and spread the Azhari education inside Egypt and abroad, and that has the greatest impact in keeping the Islamic identity of the Egyptian community and maintaining the Islamic and jurisprudence alive between people. Besides, Al-Azhar has offered lots of scholarships for international and overseas students and sponsored them and moreover its Grand Imams contributed in women education and illuminating illiteracy
