Abstract

The current research aims at measuring the effectiveness of science teaching using the mantle of the expert strategy in cognitive achievement, developing scientific tendencies, and reducing mental wandering among students with behavioral and emotional disorders in preparatory first grades. The sample of the research includes (28) students from the first year of middle school, who were selected according to the procedural definition of the student with behavioral and emotional disorders from the first stage of Preparatory school (Aswan – Egypt). The researcher uses: (1) the descriptive methodology in preparing the theoretical framework of the research and the experimental unit, which includes: student’s book, activity notebook, the teacher’s guide, tools of the research, and analyzing and explaining the results (2) the experimental methodology is used in the field part which represented in one sample group experimental design based on the pre and post measurement for dependent variables. The results showed the effectiveness of teaching science using the mantle of the expert strategy in each of: cognitive achievement, scientific inclinations, and reducing mind wandering. The research recommended the necessity to develop science curricula for the preparatory stage in the light of the expert’s mantle strategy to develop scientific tendencies and reduce mental wandering through classroom learning for students with behavioral and emotional disorders, and to hold training programs for science teachers in- service to train them on discovering students with behavioral and emotional disorders and design scientific activities fit with their characteristics and abilities.
