The Impact of Action Research Applications in Practicum on the Development of Geographical Skills in Teaching among Student Teachers

Abstract

The current research aimed to reveal the effectiveness of using action research applications in practicum to develop geographical skills in teaching among the student teachers. The research sample consisted of (30) students and made use of the experimental design based on one group pre-post test. A list of geographical skills in teaching has been prepared, a teacher's guide and a guide for the participant. The research instruments were developed to assess cognitive achievement and the performance, and they were administered to the research sample before and after the treatment. The results of the research confirmed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of students research group in the pre and post administration of the cognitive achievement test and the performance observation checklist at (0.05) level in favor of the post test. The results of the effect size in the cognitive achievement test was (0.92) and in the cecklist was (0.98), which confirmed the effectiveness of action research. The research recommended emphasizing the need for attention to the development of geographical skills in teaching among the student teachers and the use of action research in practicum.
