Reasons for depriving woman of her inheritance from the perspective of faculty members and assistant lecturers at Al-Azhar University and the role of educational institutions in overcoming them

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the reasons for depriving woman of her inheritance from the perspective of faculty members and the assistant lecturers at Al-Azhar University, as well as a sample of women who were deprived of their inheritance, and to determine the differences of these reasons according to the variables and set a proposal for roles of educational institutions to overcome these reasons. The study used the descriptive approach through applying two tools: the questionnaire on a sample of (438) faculty members and assistant lecturers at Al-AzharUniversity, and the interview on a sample of (20) women who were deprived of their inheritance. The study indicated that: The sample members reported that the reasons mentioned in the questionnaire have a high effect the deprivation of woman's inheritance. The study also indicated that there were statistically significant differences -on the questionnaire and its axes- between the study sample members according to the gender variable, in favor of (male), and according to the place of residence variable -on the reasons that belong to woman- in favor of the Upper Egypt. The results of the interviews with deprived cases of their inheritance added reasons: customs and traditions in the Egyptian countryside, families' preference for males, woman’s demand for their inheritance is a shame. The study also recommended that educational institutions should play a set of roles to overcome these reasons.
