Expansion Priorities of Al-Azhar University Education till 2030

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the priorities for expansion in Al-Azhar university education until 2030, and to achieve this, a SWOT analysis was conducted to determine the internal and external factors affecting the expansion process, to find criteria for evaluating proposed alternatives of expansion, and to determine the priorities among them. The descriptive and the forward-looking approaches were used to analyze the status of Al-Azhar university education, its environment, the factors affecting its expansion and its possible future directions. A questionnaire was administered to a sample consisting of (311) faculty members at Al-Azhar University to analyze the internal and external environment of the university and to determine the criteria and alternatives for expansion. The proposed alternatives for expansion were presented to a sample of experts that included (106) academic leaders at the university to determine the priorities among those proposed alternatives. The study presented many priorities for expansion in all sectors of Al-Azhar university education. These priorities varied to include expanding educational opportunities in some of the current academic programs in the university faculties, establishing new academic programs in some faculties, or establishing new independent colleges in the university.
