The ability to predict emotional intelligence with cognitive distortions among a sample of Mutah University students

Abstract

       The aim of the research was to test the predictive ability of emotional intelligence with cognitive distortions in a sample of Mu'tah University students, and the study sample consisted of (312) students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Mu'tah, and the emotional intelligence scale and the cognitive distortions scale were used to collect research data. Descriptive and analytical method for answering research questions. The results showed that the arithmetic averages of the emotional intelligence dimensions of a sample of Mu'tah University students came with a high degree of agreement. The arithmetic averages of the cognitive distortions variable dimensions came with a weak degree of agreement. The results also showed that the dimensions of emotional intelligence explain an amount (87%) of the variance in cognitive distortions with their dimensions among the individuals of the study sample and that (13%) of the variance in cognitive distortions among the study sample individuals is explained by other factors. And based on the results of the research, it was necessary to work on holding awareness and counseling workshops in Jordanian universities aimed at educating students about positive and negative perfectionism and its negative effects on their behavior. And the interest of universities in extracurricular activities and the necessity of adopting these activities on the students ’extension needs after being determined according to a scientific methodology.
