The Relative Contribution of both Academic Climate and Social Support in Predicting Bullying Behavior among Academically Gifted Students at the university.

Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the prevalence of bullying behavior among academically gifted students, reveal the nature of the relationship between academic climate, social support and bullying behavior among them, reveal the predictive power of both the academic climate and social support of bullying behavior, and define which of the two variables the academic climate and social support is more contributing to Predict bullying behavior. The study sample consisted of (141) students, including (62) gifted male students, and (79) gifted female students at the Northern Border University. They were chosen by intentional method during the second semester of the academic year 1441/1442. The researcher used three tools included, academic climate scale, perceived social support scale, and the multidimensional scale of peers bullying. The results indicated that the prevalence of bullying behavior amounted to 12.19%, there is A moderate, negative and significant correlation between the academic climate and the behavior of bullying, there is A moderate, negative and significant correlation between social support and bullying behavior, The results indicated also that the academic climate explained a rate of 15,2% of the variance in bullying behavior, while social support accounted for 12.6%.
