Partnership between Universities and the Private Sector and Their Role in Achieving Higher Education Quality in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This research deals with the issue of partnership between universities and the private sector. The main problem of the research focused on how to develop and strengthen this partnership and benefit from it in developing academic performance and scientific research at universities and enhancing their ability to achieve standards of quality assurance and academic accreditation. The research mainly aimed to determine the nature, importance and forms of partnership between business organizations or the private sector and government universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and how this relationship can be strengthened and developed to contribute effectively to achieving the quality of higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and to improve the performance of Saudi higher education institutions to achieve quality and academic accreditation standards and provide distinguished programs and outputs that keep pace with the developments of the times and meet the needs of society and the requirements of the labor market. The researcher adopted the descriptive approach in dealing with the topic of the research by collecting the largest possible amount of published data related to the problem and objectives of the research, analyzing it and drawing conclusions and recommendations that contribute to addressing the research problem, answering its questions and achieving its objectives. The study also reviewed a number of successful applied models of the relationship of some Arab and international universities with the private sector to benefit from such experiences in strengthening the relationship of Saudi public universities with the private sector. The results of the research revealed that there is a need of universities and business organizations today to establish an effective partnership that contributes to developing the performance of business organizations, enhancing the competitiveness of universities and achieving the required quality in their programs and outputs. The study also recommended enhancing the partnership between universities and the private sector through a number of procedures.
