A Proposed Vision for Developing University Academic Units at Al-Azhar University in the Light of EFQM Excellence Model

Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the status of the University Academic Units at Al-AzharUniversity in the light of the EFQM excellence model.It also aimed to introduce a proposed conception for the development of those units in the light of EFQM excellence model. The research used the descriptive approach, and used a questionnaire in order to collect data that was applied to a sample of 234 members of those units. The research results included that the reality of the performance of the studied Academic Units at Al-AzharUniversity according to the EFQM Excellence Model came at a “medium” degree with a weighted average of (1.84). The highest dimension in terms of the degree of achievement is the “leadership and institutional culture” dimension, as it came with a “medium” degree, and its weighted average was (2.19), It was followed by the "goal, vision and strategy" dimension, as it came with a “medium” degree, and its weighted average was (1.85). The study also found that there are a set of obstacles that limit the application of the EFQM Excellence Model in Al-Azhar University Academic Units, including: the formal and marginal use of modern technologies, the most important of which is information and communication technologies. Besides weak marketing orientation and lack of systems and mechanisms directed at serving and satisfying the stakeholders, and thus diminishing the competitive capabilities of the units, and in the light of the results of the theoretical and field study, this  research introduced a proposed conception  for developing Academic Units at Al-Azhar University in light of EFQM excellence model.
