A Proposed Concept from the Perspective of Islamic Education to Develop Student Teachers' Awareness of the Requirements of Caring for Individuals with Special Needs

Abstract

The study aimed to develop a proposed concept from the perspective of Islamic education to develop awareness among student teachers regarding the requirements of caring for individuals with special needs. The study used both fundamentalist and descriptive approaches. The study's instrument was a situational test (prepared by the researchers), which was administered to a random sample of student teachers in the Special Education Division at the Faculty of Education for Boys at Al-Azhar University in the following regions: (Cairo, Asyut, and Dakahlia),The study found that the percentage of agreement on the overall situational test was moderate from the perspective of the study sample. The ranking of the axes was as follows: the first axis, related to ethical requirements, came in first place, followed by the third axis, related to psychological requirements, in second place, and then the second axis, related to professional requirements, in third and last place. Additionally, the study revealed statistically significant differences in the responses of the sample individuals across the axes of the situational test based on the variable of academic year (first year- fourth year), favoring the fourth year. Differences were also found based on the regional variable (Cairo, Asyut, Dakahlia), favoring the sample individuals from Cairo, followed by Dakahlia, and then Asyut, in that order.
