Abstract

The research aimed to build a proposed strategy for teaching grammar rules based on text grammar theory using augmented reality technology for first-year Al-Azhar middle school students. In addition, measuring its effectiveness in developing their grammatical proficiency skills and the strength of their cognitive control. The research used the experimental method based on a quasi-experimental design with two groups (experimental and control). The research group consisted of (60) first-year Al-Azhar middle school students who were divided into two groups: experimental, numbering (30) students, and control, numbering (30) students. The two research tools were: the grammatical proficiency test, and the cognitive control strength scale prepared by the researcher. To test the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in developing these two variables, the two research tools were applied to the students of both research groups, pre- and post-application, and then the results indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the students in the post-application of the grammatical proficiency test and the measure of the strength of cognitive control, in favor of the experimental group. The research also found that the effectiveness of the proposed strategy based on text grammar theory using augmented reality technology in developing grammatical proficiency skills and the power of second-order cognitive control was great. Which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in their development for the students of the experimental group, and thus a number of recommendations and proposed research were presented in light of the results reached.
