Abstract

The research aimed at identifying the effectiveness of web-based cognitive journeys in developing some functional writing skills and writteing self-efficacy in a sample of non- native speakers of Arabic at the advanced level. To achieve this goal, a list of functional writing fields suitable for non-Arabic speaking learners at the advanced level was prepared. A list of functional writing skills for non- native speakers of Arabic learners at the advanced level was also prepared and another for the dimensions of written self-efficacy, a cognitive test, a graded scale of appreciation of functional writing skills, a measure of written` self-efficacy, a self-reflection form for the program and the preparation of experimental processing was represented in the educational program based on web-based cognitive journeys. The research used the mixed approach and the sample consisted of (30) learners. After studying the program and applying the research tools, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre and post applications in functional writing skills and written self-efficacy in favor of the post application. The Qualitative findings also showed the interest of students in the web-based cognitive journeys, they desire to generalize their studies according to the web-based cognitive journeys; this indicates the effectiveness of the proposed program in developing functional writing skills and writing self-efficacy of the research group.
