The Role of Family Disruptions and Friends in Juvenile Delinquency - A Field Study of Inmates of Omar bin Abdul Aziz Center in Jordan

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the role of family disruptions and friends in juvenile delinquency among inmates of Omar bin Abdul Aziz Center for Juveniles, affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development in Jordan. A social survey methodology was used, and the study sample consisted of (46) inmates of the center. Descriptive statistics (percentages, arithmetic means, standardized delinquency, one-way ANOVA test) were used. The results of the study revealed that the most common crime committed by juveniles is theft, with 39.13% of the study participants committing theft. Also, 56.52% of the families of juveniles had an income of less than 350 dinars, and 45.65% of the juveniles had a family member who had previously been imprisoned. The results also showed that the role of family disruptions in juvenile delinquency is weak, while the influence of friends on juvenile delinquency was moderate. Additionally, the results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) between the mother's educational level and juvenile delinquency.
