The Level of Practicing the Behaviors of Path-Goal Leadership Style Among Heads of Academic Departments in the Some of Saudi Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of practicing the behaviors of path-goal leadership among heads of academic departments in Saudi higher education institutions. The study applied the descriptive approach. It distributed a questionnaire consisting of 20 items adapted from Indvik (1988) for path-goal leadership by simple random sampling method. It collected 150 completed responses from the heads of academic departments in several Saudi higher education institutions. It analyzed using the SPSS. The results concluded that there is a high degree of familiarity among the head of the academic department with the behaviors of path-goal leadership style. It also indicated that the level of practicing the behaviors of path-goal leadership among heads of academic departments is high. This study is important for academic department heads, academic leaders, and higher education institutions in terms of the importance of including this style of leadership within plans to develop leadership competencies, which has an impact on improving the performance and productivity of department heads.
