Abstract

This research aimed at revealing the level of university teachers’ creative orientations, as perceived by students, the level of students' creative competence, the relationship between the two levels, and verifying if the two levels differ depending on the grade and academic specialization. It also aimed at investigating if the university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by students can predict the students' creative competence, and revealing the most important dimensions of these creative orientations that contribute to the creative competence. The research sample consisted of (600) students at Faculty of Education for Boys in Cairo, Al-Azhar University. They were (300) students in the first year, and (300) students in the fourth year, who were divided as follows (200 scientific), (200 literary), and (200 generic) specializations. For instruments, the researcher prepared and used two scales: one for university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by students, and the second for students' creative competence. Results revealed that the sample had a high level of university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by the students and creative competence. Also, there were statistically significant differences between the sample according to the grade (first year - fourth year) and the academic specialization (scientific – literary - generic) in the university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by the students and the creative competence in favor of the fourth year and generic specialization, respectively. In addition, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by students and creative competence among the research sample. Finally, the results revealed that students' creative competence can be predicted by university teacher’s creative orientations as perceived by students (dimensions and total score), and the dimension of effective communication, followed by the total score, were the most important dimensions of the university teacher’s creative orientations, as perceived by students, that contributed to the creative competence among the research sample.
